Giles Colborne's Simple and Usable: Web, mobile, and interaction design, is the only other book I know that makes the case for simple design. If you need to choose between reading Giles' book or reading mine, read Giles'.
To learn to write, read Everybody Writes by Ann Handley.
The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst will teach you everything you need to know about typography. If you want something lighter, On Web Typography by Jason Santa Maria covers a lot of the same topics.
If you're new to graphic design and want to learn a few practical qualities that will make any page look better, read The Non-Designer's Design Book by Robin Williams. My thanks → ← Problems with simple design Back to the table of contents
